Ben Taylor at JE- August 29th!

Yep, the legendary son of musical icons, Carly Simon and James Taylor will be enjoying our wine and singing the summer night away--all for a good cause.

Jonathan Edwards Winery is always doing our best to 'tip our wine glass' to valuable causes through our outreach in the community, donated wine + tasting events and hosting non-profit celebrations here at the winery. This year, we expanded our efforts and philosophy of giving back to host this very special musical guest for a very special cause.

Half of all ticket sales from the Ben Taylor Benefit Concert on August 29th will go to support Chikumbuso. We were introduced to this Project several years ago through the tireless and enthusiastic advocates, Sabrina Buehler + Linda Wilkinson { true leaders who live here in North Stonington}. Learn more about this incredible project to support AIDs education in Africa through microenterprise by watching this short video. Read more about Sabrina's fascinating adventures in her cross country bike trip to raise money for Chikumbuso on her blog!

Do you really need another reason to kick back on a Sunday evening in August, have a glass of Jonathan Edwards Wine and enjoy the soulful songwriting and signature voice of Ben Taylor with musical guest Brothers McCann? To us.... music + JE wine + great cause= the perfect pairing.

Tickets are $40, extremely limited and only available by pre-purchase. This is a 21+ event and a tent is provided in the event of inclement weather. Bring your lawn chairs, food and friends to enjoy the last of the summer nights with beautiful music for a good cause!

decanters + carafes

Decanting a wine can feel like an unnecessary ritual or even a bit of a show, but it really does a wonderful job of opening up the wines flavors and aromas. By exposing the wine to the air and increasing the surface area, the act of decanting can soften the tannic, youthful bite and encourage development of more complex aromas and a velvety finish true of wines that spend years in the bottle.

The recycled hand blown glass carafe gives the feel of being at a lively family dinner somewhere in Tuscany.

Click on the links above for some of our favorites. From $50 to $150 one of these might just be perfect for your next JE gathering.

"I prefer to decant wines, both young and old. It is a sign of respect for old wines and a sign of confidence in young wines. Decanting old wines, just a few moments before they are served, helps to ensure that the wines' clarity and brilliance are not obscured by any deposit that may have developed over time. Decanting young wines several hours before they are served gives the wine a chance to bloom and attain a stage of development that normally requires years of aging."

Going to Napa?

For years, we have been sharing with our customers our favorite spots in Napa Valley, CA. Years ago a 'cheat sheet' of favorites was created with different categories: not-to-be missed wineries, best tours, good eats and off-the-beaten track treasures. There is so much to do, see, drink and taste out there it can get overwhelming- so a short list of favorites can be helpful!

Now in the age of blog + iphones in hand while traveling, a print out seems so 2005. So we have been scouting new resources and hot links to deliver to you via our blog.

First up, a new favorite. As the creative director of Swanson Vineyards and a long time Napa resident, Alexis' Napa is chock full of good ideas + great spots for your next visit to our home away from home!
